I’ve Been Nominated!

Rena from Lemon Peel Design (go check her out!) ever-so-sweetly nominated me for a Liebster Award last week.  If you haven’t heard of the Liebster Award, it’s a lovely way of recognizing fellow new bloggers while learning a bit more about them.  It’s also a great way to discover new blogs! (Side note: my computer keeps auto-correcting it to Lobster Award, which is awesome).  So thank you, Rena!

I may have to cheat on this because I don’t think I follow 11 blogs that would qualify.  (Forgive me, Liebster Award gods! 11 is a big number!)

Here are my answers to Rena’s 11 questions.

1. What got you started in blogging? 

I can’t even remember the exact impetus anymore that made me finally create the site–it was more a slowly growing feeling that the skills I was gaining and my DIY projects might be helpful if shared with someone other than my (rather indifferent) three-year-old.  Austin and I had recently bought our first house, and I was slowly trying to decorate using what I had on hand and what I could find on Craigslist.  I really think I was bored one day and just went for it!  But I’m so glad I did it–it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

This is such a tough question, because I love so many seemingly different styles! I love minimalism but still like spaces to be inviting and comfortable.  Organic, Scandinavian Mid-century Modern is my absolute favorite.  I do prefer more muted palettes, white walls, and a great mix of textures and am drawn more to warm colors than to cool.

It’d be easier to tell you what I don’t like–cluttered spaces, Modernism that is harsh or cold, and anything “traditional.”  Those work for some people of course! Just not for me.

Both for sure.  Coffee is the only thing that makes me human again in the morning, any other time of day and it’s English Breakfast with cream and sugar.  I’m an Anglophile to my core–tea forever!

4. Which is your preferred social media platform and why?

I love, love, love Instagram!  It’s the only social media platform that not only encourages creativity, it demands it. I’ve grown so much as a photographer just in the past few months because of it, and I love the daily dose of inspiration I get from seeing everyone’s gorgeous feeds!  Plus, it’s always fun getting a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of my favorite bloggers and creators.  And the community there is so lovely.  Should I stop gushing now?

I guess you would call it Nude.  A very pale, peachy-pink.

6. What is your dream travel destination?

The UK.  I’ve lived there twice and visited many times, but always want to go back.

Most favorite–connecting with fabulous, inspiring, talented, generous people I never would have met otherwise.  I feel like everyone I talk to through my blog or social media accounts are just the loveliest, kindest people ever!

Least favorite–the amount of time it takes, especially using social media.  I’ve never worked harder than I have this past year and although I love blogging, some of it is just mindless, technical things that take forever.

8. If you could speak any language, which would it be?

Hm. Swedish? Or Danish? I’d love to be able to read all those design blogs I come across and aren’t translated…

9. Which equipment do you use for your blog photography?

I have a Canon T3i and that’s about all I can tell you about it.  I still shoot in manual mode but am taking a class soon!  I am definitely not tech savvy in any way, but sometime in the future I’d like to step up my game a bit.

Fall unless I’m somewhere snowy (then winter!).

11. What is your guilty pleasure?

Oh jeez. I have so many! Chocolate.  Coffee.  US Weekly.  Chocolate. PBS Masterpiece. Chocolate. Period Romance films. Chocolate…
